WHO WE ARE:  We are a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization with a current membership of more than 400 members actively engaged in fundraising and volunteering.  We have been in existence since 1997 and incorporated since 1999.  In that time, we have donated over $2.4 million in funds and gifts-in-kind.

MISSION:  The St. James Service Club, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to identifying and supporting the needs of our community though volunteer participation and fund raising.

VISION:  The St. James Service Club will be a recognized leader in identifying and meeting the needs of the local community.  By working through its own organization and with other non-profits we will strive to change the course of the future and improve the quality of life for those in need.

OBJECTIVE:  The St. James Service Club is organized exclusively for charitable purposes, including the contribution of funds and services to Brunswick County organizations, or those organizations that serve Brunswick County residents, under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  No part of the net earnings of the St. James Service Club will in any way benefit or be distributed to its membership, directors or other private persons other than to reimburse any expenses incurred for fundraising, administrative purposes or other St. James Service Club purposes.  Membership dues are used to cover administrative expenses.

WHO DO WE SERVE:  Brunswick County’s population of 143,000 has over 11% of their families living below the poverty line.  14% of the population are food insecure and 12.4% of the adults are illiterate.

WHERE OUR MONEY GOES:  The Club has a very disciplined process of vetting Brunswick County non-profit organizations.  Each organization is personally visited, and their needs are identified.  Organizations submit grant applications each year for consideration.  The Service Club Board of Directors, with the guidance of the Community Organization Chair, determine the recipients and the grant amount.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS:  The Service Clubs runs a variety of fundraising events each year.  Some are annual favorites, such as Fall Bows and Celebrate the Holidays..  We also collect gifts-in-kind, such as, School Supply Drive, Cindy’s Angels (formerly Angel Tree) and food drives.

CLUB GOVERNANCE:  The Board of Directors has four elected members, the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Board is supported by an appointed Executive Committee:  Fundraising Chair, Organizational Development Chair, Community Organizations Chair, Service Program Chair, Communications Chair, Membership Chair, Technology Chair, and General Membership Meeting Chair.  Special functions chairs: Connections Coordinator, Welcome Reception Coordinator, Scholarship Chair, and NAIER (National Association for the Exchange of Industrial Resources) Program.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:  Members can volunteer to serve on the Board, the Executive Committee, as an Event Chair/Co-Chair, committee member, greeters, ticket sellers and in many, many more ways.  We also help residents find a local organization that could use their services.
