WHO WE ARE: We are a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization with a current membership of more than 340 members actively engaged in fundraising and volunteering. We have been in existence since 1997 and incorporated since 1999. In that time, we have donated over $3 million in funds and gifts-in-kind.
MISSION: The St. James Service Club, Inc. is a non-profit organizatin dedicated to identifying and supporting the needs of Brunswick County though volunteer participation and fund raising.
VISION: The St. James Service Club will be a recognized leader in identifying and meeting the needs of the local community. By working through its own organization and with other non-profits we will strive to change the course of the future and improve the quality of life for those in need.
OBJECTIVE: The St. James Service Club is organized exclusively for charitable purposes, including the contribution of funds and services to Brunswick County organizations, or those organizations that serve Brunswick County residents, under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. No part of the net earnings of the St. James Service Club will in any way benefit or be distributed to its membership, directors or other private persons other than to reimburse any expenses incurred for fundraising, administrative purposes or other St. James Service Club purposes. Membership dues are used to cover administrative expenses.
WHO DO WE SERVE: Brunswick County’s population of 169,000 (as of 2024) has over 10% of their families living below the poverty line. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina reports that 25,000 people in Brunswick County are deemed “food insecure” with 51% percent of kids considered food insecure. 90% of children in Brunswick County receive free and reduced lunches.
WHERE OUR MONEY GOES: The Club has a very disciplined process of vetting Brunswick County non-profit organizations. Each organization is vetted, and their needs identified. Organizations submit grant applications each year for consideration. The Service Club Board of Directors, with the guidance of the Community Organization Chair and commitee, determine the recipients and the grant amount.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS: The Service Clubs runs a variety of fundraising events each year. Some are annual favorites, such as Orange Bows, Trivia Night, and Celebrate the Holidays. We also run service projects, such as, School Supply Drive, Cindy’s Angels, food drives, and Paws and Pampers Drive.
CLUB GOVERNANCE: The Board of Directors has four elected members, the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Board is supported by an appointed Executive Committee: Fundraising Chair, Organizational Development Chair, Community Organizations Chair, Service Program Chair, Communications Chair, Membership Chair, Webmaster, and General Membership Meeting Chair.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Members can volunteer to serve on the Board, the Executive Committee, as an Event Chair/Co-Chair, committee member, greeters, ticket sellers and in many, many more ways. We also help residents find a local organization that could use their services.
